Kidney and Bladder problems
Kidney and bladder problems tend to arise when we have difficulty letting go of emotions – particularly negative ones – and these feelings become blocked inside. Their function is the system of waste removal and they maintain an essential balance - they are the purifying process that keeps our bodies in harmony.
Kidneys
The main function of the kidneys is to extract unwanted substances from the blood. To do this, the kidneys have to discriminate between what is harmful and what is beneficial. Are you able to see what is good for you and what may be potentially damaging? Can you recognise what needs to be released.
The kidneys work hard at maintaining an acid-alkaline balance in the blood. This is essential for balancing the opposites – hot and cold, right and wrong, masculine and feminine – symbolised by the two kidneys in relation to each other. Issues here are especially connected with relationships in a variety of ways: they can be with our primary partner, with others, or between the masculine and feminine within us. The kidneys are also involved in the production of red blood cells, indicating their relationship to generating love throughout our being. The natural questions that follow are:
Situated on top of the kidneys are the adrenal glands. These produce adrenaline, which is released into the bloodstream in response to fear. These are known as the seat of fear in Chinese medicine. Kidney problems are particularly concerned with issues related to fear with a focus on relationships, such as unexpressed grief or emotional insecurity.
Fear motivates us into action or immobilises us into inaction. This indicates the important connection between the kidneys and the joints – the ability to express ourselves and to move on. The kidneys normally excrete uric acid and if it is not released it can build up in the joints as is the case with gout, causing painful swelling and immobility. Gout particularly affects the toes, implying specific deeper fears about what lies ahead.
Kidney stones
Condensed substances such as uric acid and minerals, which are normally passed in the urine, begin to separate and slowly gather more substance like a snowball, until a stone is formed. This can be extremely painful. Condensed matter represents condensed thought patterns and emotions, particularly to do with fear and grief. They are like unshed tears that have become solidified. There may be an outward appearance of ease but inwardly there is a holding on to sadness or insecurity. This may be due to past experiences such as unresolved grievances that have built up, is unexpressed until they begin to take form and cause pain. Recognising the inner fear or negative thought pattern is essential.
The Bladder
The bladder is a grapefruit sized bag, a holding area for waste liquid before it is released. One of the greatest attributes is its ability to expand and then shrink according to the quantity of urine passing through. The release of specific muscles enables the urine to pass, usually as the pressure is building. The relief at releasing the pressure is obvious.
This symbolises the freeing of emotion and the resulting relief once the emotion is released, for instance after a particularly emotional confrontation or experience, it is quite usual to want to urinate afterwards. It is as if all the fear is released in the urine. This happens in moments of extreme fear when we find that we have wet ourselves, as seen in animals that urinate when confronted by a fearful opponent. The release of urine clears the system of upset feelings and leaves us ready for action.
Bladder problems are about the need to let off our emotions – to release and move on rather than hold tight; or about the ability to adapt – to accommodate different circumstances and different feelings – versus the desire to cling to the past.
The healing process
Counselling is essential in the healing process, it helps to put into perspective that which is out of balance or the area where you have difficulty in finding balance, releasing old thought patterns such as fear, grief, anger, the ability to receive and/or giving, etc.
There is normally a blockage or a negative event that occurred somewhere in your life that you must revisit and gain a different perspective on and be prepared to let the past go. Once this has been obtained energetic healing can be done and the problem usually declines rapidly back to normal levels.
Please visit the counselling webpage and the energy healing webpage for more information.
Please note that all of the above does not fit 100% to each and every sufferer, but there usually are large parts of the above that fit most sufferers. It is up to you to find those and work with it. In that, you will find your own healing.
